Wisdom Hospice, Rochester, UK Following an audit to determine the standards of the assessment and management of dysphagia within the Wisdom Hospice, a standardized, multidisciplinary dysphagia policy was established, incorporating a dysphagia trained nurse (DTN) scheme. The standards of care of dysphagic patients were audited after its introduction and the results indicate that the resourcing and quality of care difficulties identified have been improved by the implementation of the policy. The service development implications for the management of dysphagia in palliative care settings are discussed.
