Cancer Unit, World Health Organization, Geneva At any one time 14 million people suffer from cancer. The WHO has established a Global Cancer Control Programme aimed at prevention, detection, therapy and pain relief. Much has been achieved in the 1980s, but an expanded programme is planned for the 1990s.
