Review article : Weakness in terminal illnessTe Omanga Hospice, Lower Hutt, New Zealand Causes of weakness are considered and attention is drawn to those that may be capable of amelioration. The mechanisms of cancer cachexia are reviewed. The role of reduced food intake, negative energy balance and metabolic changes occurring in cancer patients is examined.
