The contribution of nursing to palliative carePalliative Care, NE Thames Health Authority Nursing has a major role in palliative care as part of a truly interdisciplinary framework. The nurse's primary responsibility is to assist the patient to cope with the effects of advancing disease. The idea of a paramedical model must be replaced by a professional role where the nurse offers unique skills to the team. Only nurses themselves can determine the direction and influence of nursing in palliative care.
